Features

Everything readz does, in detail.

Every item on this page is in the beta today. What is planned is listed at the end, and marked as such.

Reading

RSVP: words are shown one at a time in a fixed position, so the eye stops moving along the line and only the word changes.

100 to 1000 words per minute
Set the speed, and the step it moves by: 10, 25, 50 or 100 wpm. Tap the speed display while reading to change it.
ORP at a fixed spot
The focus letter is the 1st letter of a one-letter word, the 2nd for 2 to 5 letters, the 3rd for 6 to 9, the 4th for 10 to 13 and the 5th beyond. It always sits slightly left of centre.
Sentence context
The surrounding sentence is shown above the current word, so you never lose your place. Tap any word in it to jump there.
Playback controls
Play or pause with the centre button or a tap on the display, seek five words back or forward, drag the progress slider, or restart.
Skip the small words
Optionally leave out determiners, pronouns, prepositions, conjunctions or auxiliary verbs and read only the words that carry the meaning.
Notes while you read
Flag a word, add a comment or a link without stopping. Your notes stay with the reading session.

Read from anywhere

Send text to readz from the app you are in, and it opens ready to play.

“Readz it” (Android)
Select text in any app and tap “Readz it” in the text-selection toolbar.
Share sheet (Android, iOS)
Share text from any app to readz through the system share sheet.
Web pages
Share a page's link: readz fetches it and keeps only the article, without menus, ads and footers.
Paste (everywhere)
Paste text straight into the app.
A link (web)
Open readz on the web with a ?text=… parameter and the text is ready to read.
Google Assistant (Android)
Start readz from Google Assistant.

Read aloud

Text-to-speech reads the text while the display stays in step: the speech engine is the clock, and the word on screen follows the voice.

Word-by-word sync
Word boundaries from the speech engine drive the visual word, so the highlighted word always matches what is spoken.
Follows your speed
The speech rate scales with your words-per-minute setting.
Pause, seek, toggle
Pause and resume keep your position; seeking restarts the voice from the new word; turn it on or off mid-session.
Your language, in the background
Pick the voice language; reading aloud keeps playing in the background. Voices are the ones installed on the device.
